Algona High School Model U.N. students traveled to the University of Northern Iowa on March 30th and 31st. The University hosted the 2023 Iowa High School Model United Nations, where students from across the state came together to discuss their topics.
This year the countries delegates from AHS represented were: The Islamic Republic of Iran and The Russian Federation. Student members were divided into topic categories of their interests. The categories are EcoSoc, Social Humanitarian and Cultural, Disarmament, Political and Security, Security Council, Legal One, Legal Two, and the International Court of Justice (ICJ). Paige Vileta said, “It’s boring yet fun, and you get to miss school. Overall it’s a good experience.”
Unfortunately no one was selected for outstanding delegate or outstanding essay, but the conference was highly competitive. They ended their year off strong.
