While the weather was warmer for a while, the golfers got in some great meets! The wind was a bit strong at some of the meets, but the gorgeous sunlight helped make the early evenings more fun.
Both the girls and boys hosted West Bend Mallard for their home openers on April 11th. The girls’ home course is River Road Golf Course while the boys’ home course is the Algona Country Club. The girls won this meet 210-273. Leading scorer from Algona was Abby Brooks, with a 45. The boys also won this meet, 186-224. Leading scorer for the boys was Harrison Waltz with a 44, followed closely by John Cox and Sam Schutjer, both with 46.
Next up, the girls traveled to North Kossuth Golf Club to take on North Union and ELC while the boys hosted both teams on Friday, April 14th. The girls came in 2nd with a score of 214, just behind Estherville, who had a score of 208. Leading scorer for Algona was Faith Zeller, with a 46. The boys got 3rd with a 197. John Cox was leading scorer for Algona with a 45.
The boys traveled to Spencer on April 17th for their invitational. Here the boys placed 12th with a 382. Low score for Algona was John Cox, with an 86, which placed him 31st.
On the 18th, the girls traveled to Lakeside Municipal Golf Course to take on St. Eds and Iowa Falls. Here the girls placed 2nd with a score of 212. Abby Brooks was leading scorer again, this time with a 48. The boys hosted both squads at the Algona Country Club. AHS placed 2nd with a 189, just three strokes behind Iowa Falls. John Cox led Algona with a 45 while Sam Schutjer was close behind, with a 47.
Hopefully the weather will turn back to nice soon and the teams can get some more meets in. The one scheduled for tonight, April 21st, has already been canceled for the girls, but the boys are still on to travel to Humboldt. The boys host a tournament on Saturday, April 22nd. Next week, the girls head to Spencer for an invitational on the 24th and host a triangular on the 28th against Hampton and Webster City. The boys head to Spirit Lake on the 25th, Hampton on the 28th, and Britt on the 29th. Good luck Bulldogs!
