Boys' track 2023 (Garrigan)

The boys and girls have been very busy with meets these past few weeks. They are working hard to get ready for the Conference and District meets in the upcoming weeks. 

On Thursday, April 20, the boys had a Varsity meet in Waukee. They did a great job competing against bigger schools. The boys’ distance medley team placed 3rd overall with a time of 3:48.69. Evan Allie, who ran the open 200 meter dash, placed 4th overall. Carlos Gomez jumped 19’06” feet in the long jump. 

The girls and boys both had meets on Monday, April 24. The boys ran at Mason City for the first time in a while. This meet also had very good teams to compete against. The boys won the meet with a total of 165.5 points. The boys had first place finishes in the 3200 meter run, 4x800 relay, 100 meter dash, 1600 meter run, and the 4x100 relay. 

The girls ran at Humboldt that day and also did an outstanding job. The girls placed third overall as a team. First place finishes included: 4x800 meter relay, distance medley relay and the 4x400 meter relay. The distance medley team of Ava Henry, Ella Lawson, Macy Knapp, and Moriah Knapp had a season best of 4:32.38. 

The girls and boys also ran on Tuesday, April 25, in two different places. The girls ran at Forest City and gave it their all. The girls had to compete against tougher teams and placed 3rd in their class. Moriah Knapp placed first in the 3000 and 1500 and even had a personal best in the 3000. 

The boys ran at Emmetsburg and placed first overall with a total of 190 points. The boys had first place finishes in the 4x800 meter relay, 100 meter dash, 400 meter dash, 400 meter hurdles, 4x100 meter relay, 4x400 meter relay, discus, and high jump. The boys had an outstanding night! Devin Larsen states, “Track is a very fun sport that pushes your limits, but it is good for you!” 

The girls ran at Spencer on Friday, April 28, and did a fantastic job! The girls had first place finishes in the shuttle hurdle relay, 4x100 meter relay, 4x200 meter relay, 4x400 meter relay, 4x800 meter relay, 400 hurdles, 800 meter race, and discus. The girls did a wonderful job competing in the cold weather. 

The boys ran at home on May 1st and took first place. It was a windy night, but the boys did a wonderful job competing. The boys had first place finishes in the sprint medley relay, 3200 meter run, 4x800 meter relay, 100 meter dash, distance medley relay, 400 meter dash, 400 meter hurdles, 1600 meter run, and 4x100 meter relay. 

The girls and boys both have Conference meets on Thursday, May 4th. The girls will run at Fort Dodge Stadium and the boys will run at Webster City High School. Districts will be held  coed at Nevada High School, which is the State qualifying meet. The athletes have been working hard during practice and meets to get ready for the District meet. State will be held Thursday, May 18, through Saturday, May 20.
