Girls' golf 2023 Zeller

The weather change has definitely been affecting the AHS boys’ and girls’ golf teams. With rain, wind, and cold, the later part of the season has been tough, but the Bulldogs keep working their hardest.

On Monday, April 24th, the girls went to Spencer to compete in the Spencer Invitation. The girls placed 5th as a team, with 436 points. Abby Brooks was the leading scorer for Algona, placing 2nd with a 90.

On Tuesday, April 25th, the boys traveled to Humboldt for a triangular against Humboldt and Clear Lake. The team placed third with a score of 187. John Cox and Sam Schutjer tied for 9th with a score of 44.

On April 28th, the Algona girls were to take on Hampton and Webster City. However, the weather interrupted this meet and there was no good time that all teams could line up to make it up. So instead, the results of the first 9 holes of the Conference meet will create the scores for this meet.

On April 29th, the boys went to the Britt Golf Course for a tournament. Here the boys placed 3rd with a 358. John Cox, Austin Steenhoek, and Harrison Waltz all tied for 10th with a score of 89.

On Monday, May 1st, the girls hosted Spencer. The girls lost to a tough Spencer squad, 223-194. Brooks was leading scorer for AHS again, tying for 2nd with a 50.

On the same night, the boys took on Hampton in a rescheduled meet from the 28th of April. The boys lost a close one, 186-177. Cox was low scorer for Algona, tying for 3rd with a 45.

The very next day, the girls were back at it. This time they hosted Clarion. The girls pulled off a win, 203-229. Brooks was the winner of this meet with a 47. Olivia Lampe placed 2nd, with a 51.

The boys traveled to Clarion to take on the Cowboys. The Bulldogs lost 190-174. Low scorer for Algona was Cox with a 44.

On Thursday, the girls traveled to the Spring Valley Golf Course to take on Garrigan, Clear Lake, and Humboldt. As a team, the girls placed 2nd with 207 points. Brooks was Algona’s lowest score, with a 45. This placed her in 5th.

The boys were also at Spring Valley on the 4th, but they played against just Garrigan. The Bulldogs came away with the win, 170-178. Cox had a great meet, scoring a 39.

Next up is the NCC meets for both squads on May 8th. The girls travel to Mason City while the boys are at Spring Valley.  May 13th, the girls are at the Storm Lake Invitational, and their Class 3A Region 1 meet will be held in Storm Lake on May 17th. The boys’ 3A Sectionals will be on May 9th at Spencer.
