The end of the school year is just a few weeks away! AHS students are working hard and preparing for their final assignments and tests. Students will be finishing up their classes by taking semester tests. Final semester grades will be determined by 40% of 3rd quarter grades, 40% of 4th quarter grades, and 20% of semester test scores. Some teachers, if they choose, may not give semester tests. If this is the case, semester grades are 50% quarter 3, 50% quarter 4.
Seniors will take their semester tests on May 15th and 16th. Underclassmen will take their tests either on those days or any time before the 24th of May.
On Wednesday, May 17th, the senior class will be attending a senior breakfast in honor of their last day at AHS. Following the senior breakfast, there will be an assembly in the PAC for awards and to announce scholarship recipients. After that, seniors will attend their last Advisory, do the Walk Through the Ages at the different schools, and be done with school until graduation.
On Sunday, May 21, commencement will be held for the AHS graduating class of 2023 to celebrate and recognize their great accomplishments as they say farewell and start a new chapter in their lives. Some students will be furthering their education by attending college while others will be going into the work field or military. Graduation will be held in the AHS gym at 2:00. Kayla Thompson, a senior at AHS, shares her thoughts on graduation. Thompson states, “It is unbelievable to think us seniors will be stepping out of this school one last time as students.”
For all of the remaining grades, two of the days before summer break, May 24th & 25th, students will participate in May Term courses. Each student got to request certain activities they would enjoy doing for the last few days with their friends and teachers. Some activities include biking, eSports, camping, volunteering, or even going to an amusement park.
Students will have their last and final school day on Friday, May 26. Students will be dismissed at 11:30 to start their summer break.
