Spear's advisory give back 2023

Algona High School’s advisories have been doing different activities all throughout the school year. Each advisory chose their own activity to do to better the community for National Giving Back Day.

Mrs. Spear’s advisory chooses a different organization each month to make goodies/things for. Last month they made cookies and Christmas goodies for the ExOp residents. They also made little snack kits for the farmers of Algona; they left them on their trucks and tractors in the field and gave them out at local co-ops.

Mrs. Jacobson’s advisory spent time with the younger students of Algona. They got to play and interact with the younger kids and help brighten their day! Charlotte Greene said her favorite part of the activity was that, “We got to spend time and play with the kids outside before it got cold.”

Mr. Stein’s advisory is trying to organize a competition/activity with multiple other advisories to make it bigger and more fun for the students! Those are just a couple examples out of the many things done to give back at AHS!

This is now the 2nd year that Algona has been giving back during their advisory time. In the past, the Algona students would participate in a garbage pickup day together instead of choosing their own way to give back as a small group.

Students meet with their advisory teacher on Tuesdays and Fridays. During this time, they help prepare themselves for college and life and better themselves for their remaining high school years.

Other things students have done during their advisory time is write cards for the Algona staff, write down nice things about another student and post it in the hallway, play games and have competitions with their classmates, work on college and career readiness skills, and make holiday cards for students, teachers, and nursing home residents.
