Beginning of the year assembly 2023

AHS is halfway done with the 2023-2024 school year! This year the high school had a brand new schedule. Instead of two semesters, they now have four terms. Students meet with the same five classes every day for a full term. Once the term is done, the schedules are changed. Students pick five classes every term to fill their schedule. This is different from the block schedule in years prior where students had eight classes to take. It was a big adjustment going from eight classes that were split between two days to five classes every day for a full term.

A new district wide phone policy was also added this year. The policy states, “Cell phones are not allowed to be out in classrooms in the Algona Community School District. The only exception to the policy shall be for an academic purpose directed by a staff member.”

Also this year, the commons was redecorated at the end of the first term. New lunch tables were added that fit the new gray theme seen throughout the school. Instead of the old brown tables, students now have the option to sit at booths, hightops, or long tables. Some of the tables even have the school’s logo on it. Abby Brooks says, “The tables are snazzy, comfortable, functional, and they bring a lot of pizazz to the commons!”

Although this school year has been a little different compared to years prior, the first two terms were a success!
