Jazz choir 2024

Algona High School is in full swing as the jazz choir started practicing their songs for the upcoming jazz season. Some songs they are singing include: “Hand in Hand” by Kait Karrigan, “You Make Me Feel So Young” by Frank Sinatra, and “Orange and Blue” by Sarah Jarosz. Algona High’s jazz choir has been coming in every few days a week at seven to practice and perfect their setlist for upcoming competitions and concerts.

This year's jazz choir consists of 19 students who were selected by Mr. Herbst Ulmer. Auditions were held back in November. Freshman, Catherine Hart, states, “Even with the challenge of our large size, we blend together well and that'll do us some good in competition.“

The jazz choir has a clinician coming in on January 30th during the school day. The clinician will listen to their songs and hopefully educate them on better ways to perform their songs at the annual State Jazz Competition.

Some upcoming events include State Jazz, which takes place on February 5th in Clear Lake, and the Shake the Lakes contest on February 16 in Spirit Lake.
