Girls' basketball 2024

The Algona girls’ basketball team has been leading their Conference so far this season with a record of 9-1 and an overall record of 12-4. So far the girls’ season has been going great, and there has been a lot of excellence. 

 They achieved their first Conference win against Hampton-Dumont-CAL on November 30th. 

On January 16th, the girls played against Hampton and won 65-36. Junior, Lauren McLaughlin, thought that it was a “Battle of the Dawgs” and that “we were the better Bulldogs that night.”

The girls also had the annual Pink Out game on the on the 19th against Webster City. They won with the score being 77-40. Freshman, Hayden Kuhlmann, scored 19 points, had seven rebounds, and six assists.

They also played Spencer this past Saturday. They won 35-25. Junior, Lauren McLaughlin, had 18 points and seven rebounds.

This week they started out by playing Humboldt on the 23rd. After a tough battle, the girls lost to a tough Wildcat team with the score being 49-59. Junior, Casey VanOtterloo, finished with 15 points.

On the 25th, they traveled to play Clarion-Goldfield-Dows and came away with a 77-42 win. Lauren McLaughlin was the top scorer with 25 points, while sister, Hayden McLaughlin, added in 11 rebounds.

They are on the road again tonight, this time to Iowa Falls-Alden. 

Next week for the girls, they host Clear Lake on Monday and travel to St. Edmond on Friday. Stay tuned for the rest of the girls’ season and their upcoming games.
