Girls' basketball 2024

As the basketball season moves along, the Algona girls continue to impress. The Bulldogs are currently 17- 4 overall and finished 13 - 1 in the Conference. As the postseason gets underway, the Bulldogs aren’t letting up.

Last week, on Monday, January 30th, the Algona Bulldogs hosted Clear Lake for a Conference matchup. It was a thrilling game between the Dogs and Lions. Algona won with the final score being 54-30. Junior, Casey VanOtterloo, led the team with 18 points. Freshman, Hayden McLaughlin, followed with 10 points and 5 rebounds. 

  Further in the week, on Friday, February 2nd, the girls traveled to Fort Dodge to play another Conference game against the St. Edmond Gaels. The Bulldogs played with a lot of intensity, beating the Gaels 56 - 38. Everyone on the team contributed to the win. Freshman, Hayden Kuhlmann, played an impressive game with 13 points and 4 assists. Freshman, Bella Jo Dunning, added in 7 rebounds.

Algona made their way to Pocahontas on Monday, February 5th, for a non-Conference game against the Indians. The AHS girls brought their momentum from last week into the new week and finished the game with a 64 - 59  win. Junior, Lauren McLaughlin, concluded the game with 13 points and 8 rebounds. Sister, Hayden McLaughlin, scored 14 points for the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs had a quick turn around on Tuesday, February 6th,  playing their last 2024 Conference game against Clarion-Goldfield-Dows. The Algona girls played an exciting game from start to finish. The Bulldogs beat Clarion 56-45, labeling the Algona Bulldogs North Central Conference champions, with a record of 13-1. 

On Saturday, February 10th, the Algona girls will begin their postseason against Eagle Grove. The matchup will take place in the AHS gym for the first round of playoffs. Heading into the game, the Bulldogs are 17-4 overall and the Eagles are 0-21.  Kuhlmann states, “We’ve put ourselves in a great position to do some great things.“

If the girls beat Eagle Grove, they will either be hosting Garner Hayfield Ventura or Clarion Goldfield Dows on Wednesday, February 14th. Go Dogs!
