Band 2023-2024

Spring is coming and so are two all school concerts by the band and choir programs. On February 26, all concert bands from Algona Community School District will perform. Then, on March 5, all choirs will join together for their pops concert.

The all school band concert will have performances from the fifth grade band, the sixth grade band, the seventh/eighth grade band, and the high school band. The seventh/eighth and high school bands have three pieces each, and the other two bands each have two pieces.

Senior, Ashlyn Waldera, says, “We’ve been working so hard, and I’m so excited for the band concert!”

There will be well known tunes such as “Circle of Life” and “Highlights from Harry Potter.” However, most pieces will be new sounds for the audience.

The high school band also went to the All-Iowa Concert Band Festival on Tuesday, February 20, in Atlantic.

On the other side of it all, the all school chorus pops concert will have performances from the fifth grade choir, the sixth grade choir, the seventh/eighth grade choir, and the high school choir. Together, the choirs will sing “What About Us?” This year will mark the third all school pops concert.

All of the choirs will sing three pieces. Some artists include Taylor Swift, OneRepublic, Bruno Mars, and a song by the BackStreet Boys arranged by Adam Orban. The high school choir will even break out some dance moves during one of their songs.

Natalee Reemstma, AHS sophomore, says, “Our pops music is great this year and is very different from past years. I’m really looking forward to performing at this concert as it is very popular for our program.” The choirs started working in November and December on their music and are ready to perform it all.

All school music concerts are special for the audience because they get to see all the levels of talent ACSD has to offer. It is also important for the students. Middle schoolers get to see what their future could be, and the high schoolers get to see how far they’ve come.

Be sure to mark your calendars for both of the upcoming concerts.
