FCCLA Week 2024

FCCLA is a new organization to Algona High School that started three years ago; the organization itself has been around since 1945. FCCLA stands for Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America. The organization was created to help share the importance of family and consumer science education.

Members from all over the world celebrated National FCCLA Week from February 12th-16th. The week was to recognize FCCLA and family and consumer sciences education through participating in fun chapter activities.

To start the week, the members celebrated Marvelous Member Monday. They had a meeting during TAS where they were gifted M&M’s by Mrs. Louwaige, thanking them for all of their hard work. They were also allowed to create their own “Bark House” tea bomb. Tuesday was a day of service, where the members made Valentine’s cards and delivered them to area nursing home residents. On Wednesday, FCS Educator Day, the officers recognized Mrs. Louwagie and Ms. Berte with a gift, thanking them for all they do for the school and students. Thursday was Alumni Day. Since FCCLA is new to Algona, the chapter does not currently have any alumni, so instead they recognized their seniors by posting about their future plans on the FCCLA Instagram page and wished them the best of luck. Finally, Friday was Spirit Day; everybody was encouraged to wear red.

The vice president of FCCLA, Sydney Seebecker, said, “I had a lot of fun getting to do things with my chapter and making a positive impact on our community.”
