Superstars winners 2024

Superstars, with a retro theme, took place on Wednesday, March 20th. It was a great day of friendly competition and taking a little break from school work.

The day started off at 11:45 with a class count and a skit from the new staff at AHS. New staff members dressed up as past actors, singers, and even WWE wrestlers to kick off the events. Dodgeball was the first official event of the day. One highlight of this event was the senior boys beating the juniors in the championship in a close match. Also at this time quiz bowl took place, where the juniors won.

Some easy points were earned at the drop in events, such as Yatzee, fencing, ping pong, chess, checkers, and Uno. In this section of winning, the seniors had the most points, with 46. The freshmen were close behind though, gaining 44 points for their grade.

At 12:45, some casual events were played. Pickleball took place in the gym. There was also a paper airplane contest in the hallway. Steal the bacon and ledge ball were done in the wrestling room. The sophomores used their strength to get first in weightlifting while the seniors won putting and the freshmen won bean bag toss.

At 1:15, students headed into the gym for spikeball and the weird shuttle relay. Daniel Kemna and Logan Lentz won spikeball for the third time in their high school career. Human ladder took place in the wrestling room and was won by the juniors, for the third year also. The juniors also won chipping.

At 2:00, the talent show started. Seth Gardalen started it off with a great dance. Jozzie Beaver, Remi Shaffer, Mada Steburg, Natalie Reemstma, Adeline Reynolds, and Sydney Seebecker demonstrated their awesome singing abilities. Hayden Kuhlmann, Hayden McLaughlin, Taylor VanOtterloo, Bella Jo Dunning, Maya Lentz, and Charli Dodds did a fun synchronized swimming act. Connor Reagan did a solo on the euphonium.

Following the talent show, students traveled back to the gym for more events. Nathan Manske and Landon Campe took home the victory in the three point contest for the freshmen against Connor Reagan and Mason Ulrich in a close match up. Seniors, Reid Louwagie and Camilla Campuzano, ended up winning musical chairs, earning a good amount of points for the seniors. Also at this time was limbo, a clean sweep by the juniors, and tire bridge, also won by the seniors.

New this year was Hungry Hippos. Here, teams of four had to compete to get the most balls from the center of the basketball court using baskets and riding scooters. The “hippos” were powered by a teammate directing them with their legs. Seniors pulled off first and second in this event.

At 3:15, the day came to an end with the final event, tug of war. The seniors got first in the male tug of war, juniors earned first in the female tug of war, and sophomores ended the day by taking first in the mixed tug of war.

At the end of the day, the results were announced. The seniors ended up getting first place after three rough years. The juniors came in close second, and the freshmen were right behind them in third place. Sophomores wound up in fourth place. This was the closest final in a while, with third place only being 10.7 points behind second and second only being 6.7 points behind first.

Congratulations to the seniors on ending their last year in first place and good luck to all the underclassmen next year.
