On April 2nd, AHS Jazz Band was able to attend the 2023-2024 Instrumental Jazz Championships. To attend the championships, school jazz bands must first qualify by sending in a set and being reviewed by the committee, in which the committee then decides if the group should be able to compete.
Algona High School had a great competition day and showed great sportsmanship and support for all of the other bands during the competition. Students involved in jazz band have worked hard this year, and it paid off.
Senior participant, Gabe Thornton, states, “Going to State for jazz band for the second year in a row, with State jazz being so competitive, really shows how committed and dedicated our band is and will be for future competitions.”
Upcoming events for the band include May 7th for their end of year concert, which will also include awards and senior recognition. They will also play on May 19th, during the graduation ceremony.
