The lady Bulldogs have been playing some great golf lately. They have had three meets in the last two weeks, one of them being an 18-hole tournament. On Monday, the 21st, the girls traveled to Estherville for an 18-hole tournament against five other teams. They got second place, only losing by two strokes to Spencer. Gabby Venteicher placed third and Taylor Hellman placed fifth out of 33 golfers. Hellman said about golf, “Half of golf is fun. The other half is putting.”

Next, the lady golfers traveled to Lakeside Municipal Golf Course in Fort Dodge on the 22nd for a North Central Conference triangular against St. Edmonds and Hampton-Dumont-CAL. They shot a very low score of 184 to win the meet. Ella Welp placed first and Lainey Venteicher placed second. 

To finish the week, the girls’ golf team hosted a dual against the Clear Lake Lions on Friday. Ella Welp was medalist again with a 42 followed by Gabby Venteicher with a 45. Algona beat Clear Lake by 13 with a team score of 181. 

Monday’s meet against Spencer was postponed due to weather to a later, undetermined date. 

Algona will finish their week again at home tonight for another Conference triangular. The Humboldt Wildcats and Clarion Cowgirls will travel to River Road to face the Bulldogs. Wish them luck!

The boys have also been playing some good golf, still figuring out their lineup. On Monday, the 21st, they also had an 18-hole tournament. They traveled to Spencer for the Bill Chambers Invitational where they placed fifth out of 15 teams!

After Spencer, they were back at it on Tuesday for a home triangular against St. Edmond’s and Hampton-Dumont-CAL. Nathan Manske led the Bulldogs with a par for the day. Sam Schutjer was the runner-up with a 39. The boys shot a very low team score of 156 to win the meet.

On Friday, the 25th, the Bulldogs went to Veterans Memorial Golf Club for a Conference dual against Clear Lake.They placed second with a 167 against Clear Lake’s 155.

To finish their busy week, Algona hosted a tournament at Eagle Hills Golf Course. They placed first out of six teams with a score of 321. Brooks Kuhlmann was the runner-up medalist with an 80. Nathan Manske and Wyatt Kelly also shot an 80 on Saturday, but the tie went to Kuhlmann. 

After Saturday’s tournament, they started their week in Okoboji at Brooks Golf Club in a quad against Spirit Lake, ELC, and North Union on Tuesday, April 29th. They won the meet with a team low score of 164, beating Spirit Lake by three. 

The boys’ golf team will also finish their week with a Conference triangular against Clarion and Humboldt at Humboldt Country Club on Friday, May 2nd. Be sure to check them out!
