As high school seniors approach graduation, the final months are packed with important events, deadlines, and traditions. Although it's an exciting time filled with celebration and reflection, it also requires careful planning. Here's a rundown of key items seniors need to complete before graduation.
Seniors should have already picked up their cap and gown. Be sure to store them in a safe place, hung up to get the wrinkles out.
The next item on the list was commencement rehearsal, which was held during TAS on Wednesday, April 30th. Attendance at the rehearsal was required for participation in the actual graduation ceremony. If you plan on not participating, please confirm with Mr. Cecil. Flynn McCann, a senior, says, “I’m so glad I made it.”
The next item is on Monday, May 5th, during advisory. Here, students will be recognized for the various clubs and activities they are involved in, like Model UN or Science Fair.
On the 7th, all seniors are invited to a baccalaureate service at Grace Church at 7:00. This is a church service put together by local churches to honor seniors; it is not put on by the school.
One of the favorite end of the year activities for all students, but especially seniors, is the video yearbook. This will take place on May 9th.
Tuesday, May 13th, is a busy day! Students should bring their caps and gowns in the morning along with a hanger to be hung up to use later. At 7:30 a.m. in the high school commons, breakfast will be provided for all graduating seniors on behalf of the AHS faculty and staff. Following breakfast, at 8:30, there will be an awards ceremony in the performing arts center where all family and friends are welcome. At this time, seniors will be recognized for several scholarships and awards they have achieved. Concluding the ceremony, there will be a Walk Through the Ages where students will put on their caps and gowns and make a trip through the school buildings in the district. After the walk there will be a senior checkout meeting in the gym, where all seniors will need to attend and bring their completed checkout sheet with them. This is also their last day of high school.
Lastly is the commencement ceremony at 2:00 on Sunday, May 18th. Seniors should arrive at the school at 1:00 and be properly dressed. Only Mr. Cecil can approve stoles and cords worn. Also, decorated caps or other similar attire are not part of the formal ceremony. During the ceremony, not only will seniors receive their diplomas, they will also get recognized for scholarships, the band and choir will perform, and speeches on the future will be given.
Senior year is a whirlwind of emotions, from excitement and pride to nostalgia and even a little stress. Staying organized, attending required events, and finishing strong are the keys to a smooth transition into the next chapter.
