Cindy Schmidt began her teaching career in the Lu Verne building of the CWL school district 35 years ago. During her years there, she taught a variety of grade levels, from junior high math to 4 year old preschool and just about everything in between, including a couple of years of combined grade level classes. In addition, she coached junior high girls’ track for a while.
Eleven years ago, Schmidt came to the Algona Community School District. At Bryant Elementary, she has been a 2nd grade teacher.
Schmidt enjoys all of the people she works with, along with the kids. In retirement she will miss starting off each day with the kids’ stories and excitement. Mrs. Schmidt explains that the most satisfying part about being a teacher has been at the end of the year, when you look back at where students started the year and then where they ended and see the growth they made during the year.
Schmidt said, “My favorite part of teaching is interacting with the kids everyday and finding ways to help them grow in their subject knowledge and as overall kind human beings.”
In retirement, Mrs. Schmidt plans to do some traveling and some “grandma” duties. She is also looking forward to being on her own schedule and taking a vacation in mid-August.
Congratulations Mrs. Schmidt on your 11 years of service in the Algona Community School District and 35 years in the profession!
