Zoe Heider started teaching at the LuVerne school. While there, she taught preschool, Title 1, middle school reading, and 5th grade. She also coached middle school girls’ basketball, middle school softball, and middle school boys’ track and field.
She came to Algona 15 years later and has taught 4-year-old preschool ever since. Heider will miss the honesty and unfiltered thoughts and comments of 4-year-old children the most, as well as the pictures, drawings, and heartfelt “I love you’s.”
For Mrs. Heider, the most satisfying parts of being a teacher are the “aha” moments when something clicks for a child, whether it's zipping their coat for the first time, writing their name, or solving a puzzle.
In her many years of experience, Mrs. Heider has learned that children are born curious. They want to explore, question, and understand the world. She has learned that teachers always keep learning too.
Heider said, “I love to witness the kids’ excitement for learning at this young age and watch their curiosity and wonder.”
In retirement, Heider plans to spend more time with her four grandkids and her mom, take longer vacations, and substitute teach a little bit.
Congratulations to Mrs. Heider on 15 years of service to the Algona Community School District!
