2025 District Soil Contest

Fourteen Algona FFA members dug deep at the North Central District Soils Contest, turning in outstanding performances by its members on October 1st.  Algona had four teams entered into the competition with Algona #1 winning the competition and qualifying for the Iowa FFA State Soil/Land judging competition which will be held on the campus of Iowa State University on October 9th.  

  • Algona Team 1 claimed First Place Team Gold, led by Grady Ruger, who finished 1st overall individual. Teammates included Riley Schechenger (8th), Cassidy Bierstedt (9th), and Malea Divis (24th).

  • Algona Team 3 earned Fourth Place Team Gold, with standout efforts from Logan Alt (4th), Emmett Bormann (18th), and Kaden Bormann (32nd), joined by Runnier Trujillo.

  • Algona Team 2 captured Sixth Place Team Gold, with strong placings from Maya McDermott (12th), Taylor Coleman (27th), John Ludwig (34th), and Grace Luitjens (35th).

  • Algona Team 4 earned a Team Bronze rating, represented by Ryan Bargloff and Blake Nisi.

“I am very proud of each of the students who participated in this contest. The kids have worked hard outside of the classroom to get ready for this competition,” stated Algona agricultural education instructor and FFA advisor, Betsy Becker.

The Algona FFA advisor commends all members for their dedication and extends its appreciation to the Algona community for the ongoing support of its programs, which makes these opportunities possible for students.

Overall there were 78 teams and 267 individuals who participated in the event.
