Boys' swim team 25-26

Written by Colin Roberts

Algona High School doesn’t have a swim team, so the two Algona swimmers, Colin Roberts and Owen Doocy, swim for the Garrigan Bears. The Garrigan swimmers are doing great this season. They are nearing the end of their season with only one last chance for State and a last chance for the seniors on the team.

On January 27th, the Bears faced off against the Marshalltown Bobcats, where they faced some tough competition. At this meet, Owen Doocy shaved off about four seconds on his 100 fly, swimming a 1:35.19. Jeff Mortensen, the coach, says after the meet, “Owen Doocy is an outstanding young man.”

Their next competition could be their last of the season. Their District meet is at noon on Saturday, February 7th. They swim at Mason City for a chance to swim at State. Their two ways to make it to State are to place first or second, or have a State swim qualifying time. Good luck to them!
