For the first time in Algona Band history, the high school band has been selected to perform at the Iowa Bandmasters Association Conference in May. The band was accepted as a result of sending in an audition of three pieces in December.
There are only four high school bands selected to perform at this event based on class. In AHS school history, this is the second time a band from Algona has been selected, the first being the 7/8th grade band last year. The 6th grade band was also selected this year.
The Algona band program, as a result of much hard work, has received every honor available to bands at the IBA Conference. Director Nic Liebl responded to the selection by saying, “This is a dream that Mr. Kissinger and I had five years ago. It couldn’t have happened without the administration, clinicians, and efforts put in by all of the band. I am very proud that we are able to be a part of this cool story. The story of this year’s senior class is like the completion of what they started as sophomores. This is not about me, it is really all about the band.”
Each band will perform at the Des Moines Marriott Downtown. The performance will take place on May 14th or 15th, the final schedule is still to be determined. This is the highest honor a band can receive in the state of Iowa. Congratulations to all involved in the band program!
