National Signing Day was established all of the way back in 1981 to help celebrate athletes' commitments to play at the next level. National Signing Day takes place every year on the first Wednesday of February with an early signing day taking place in December. On Signing Day, athletes officially commit to their college programs.
The first AHS senior to sign to continue their athletic career was Allee Carr. Carr has been a part of the Algona High School Dance Team her whole high school career. Carr has put a lot of work into dancing over her high school career, through school and studio dance. Carr has decided to take her dancing talents to Iowa Central once she graduates.
There are still a lot of athletes at AHS who have yet to do their formal signings. Evan Allie has committed to play football at Upper Iowa University. Will Weichert has committed to play football at Grandview. Max Nevitt has committed to throw shot put and discus at South Dakota State. Gavin Weber has committed to Minnesota State to run track and cross country. Tyler Bradley has committed to Wartburg to run track. Barrett Morgan has committed to wrestle at Wartburg. Tate Garman has committed to play baseball at DMACC. Aiden Engel has committed to play baseball at Iowa Central.
Aiden Engel says, “Signing day is going to be fun. I'm excited to continue to play at the next level.” All of these athletes have yet to do a signing day but plan to do one towards the end of February.
