Mock Trial is designed to give students an introduction to the legal system by providing challenging academic competition. The program offers personal growth and achievement, showing the importance of research about a case, presentation, and teamwork. Students are given a hands-on opportunity in the legal process and an insight into the current legal issues. Mock Trial also helps students develop important thinking skills and the opportunity to aid in the development of fundamental research, preparation, and presentation skills.

Algona’s Mock Trial team will be competing on March 6th. They will be on both sides of an arson case with half of the kids in defense and the other trying to prosecute. The team consists of AHS students Quintin Frambach, Abbie Droessler, Jordan Jansen, Vlada Khomenko, Korbin Awe, Sophia Snider, Zach Vileta, Isis Mendoza-Partida, Micah Kelly, and Haylen Wellman.

When asked about Mock Trial, senior Quintin Frambach said, “Just do it, it’s fun trying something new!”

After the competition on the sixth, participants have the chance to compete at State against other students in the region.  To qualify for State the team must place above the other competing teams in rankings at Regionals, which are held in multiple places including Des Moines, Mason City, Council Bluffs, and Waterloo, just to name a few.
