The boys’ track season is coming to a close for this year. The Conference meet took place in Algona this year. The boys came in 2nd place with a score of 121, falling only to Clear Lake. Some highlights from the meet include Will Limbaugh coming in first for the discus with a throw of 160-11, followed close behind by Max Nevitt. They then flipped order in shot put, with Nevitt in first and Limbaugh in second. Will Weichert finished in first in the 100 meter dash, followed closely by Tate Garman. The 4x100 relay team also finished in first with a time of 43.30. Several AHS athletes were not able to compete at the Conference meet due to injuries, as they were hoping to be ready for Districts.
On Tuesday, May 14th, they ran in MOC-Floyd Valley for the District meet. The top two from each event, along with the next eight athletes across all districts combined, qualify for the State Meet on May 21st-23rd in Des Moines. Tate Garman says, “There was good competition; it was fun.” Algona qualified: Max Nevitt in shot put, Nevitt and Limbaugh in discus, Evan Allie and Tate Garman in the 200 meter dash, Gavin Weber in the 800 and 1600, the 4x100 with Weichert, Garman, Levi Walker, and Allie, the sprint medley of Weichert, Walker, Garman, and Allie, and the distance medley team of Garman, Walker, Allie, and Weber. Also at Districts, Nevitt broke the school discus record with a throw of 179-01.
Good luck at State to all who qualified!
