On Monday, May 1st, the Algona girls’ golf team traveled to Humboldt to compete in a triangular against Clarion-Goldfield-Dows and Humboldt. They ended up placing 1st in the triangular and had three girls in the top 3. Ella Welp shot a 49, placing 1st, Taylor Hellman shot a 51, placing 2nd, and Gabby Venteicher shot a 51, placing 3rd.
The girls’ next meet was on May 4th where they traveled to Spencer to compete in the Spencer Girls Invitational. Out of 7 teams that competed, the girls finished in 2nd place. They had three girls who placed in the top 10. Lainey Steuk placed 3rd with a score of 95. Ella Welp placed 7th with a score of 103. Taylor Hellman tied for 10th with a score of 106.
The following meet was on Tuesday, May 5th, which was a NCC triangular against Webster City and Iowa Falls Alden. The girls placed 1st with two top three finishes. Ella Welp placed 1st with a score of 44, and Gabby Venteicher placed 2nd with a score of 45.
On May 7th, the girls competed at Spring Valley against Bishop Garrigan. The Bulldogs fell short, losing by 12 strokes. The top performer for the girls was Taylor Hellman, shooting a 46.
Then, on May 9th, the girls competed in the Storm Lake girls’ golf tournament. In this tournament the girls finished 3rd. Gabby Venteicher led the Bulldogs with a score of 94.
Next up was the North Central Conference meet, which took place in Mason City at the Legacy Golf Course on May 11th. The girls placed 2nd with two top five finishes. Taylor Hellman placed 3rd with a score of 93, and Lainey Stuek placed 4th with a score of 94.
On Wednesday, May 20th, the girls will compete in the Regional golf meet at Spencer for a chance to qualify for the State meet. From this, the top six individuals and the top two teams qualify for State.
