Diane Goodman 2026

Written by Brooklyn Adams

Diane Goodman graduated from Algona High School in 1979 and has always had a desire to be a mom and a teacher. Her love for children was apparent from a young age. She began as a stay at home mom while running a daycare. Her teaching journey began in 1990 and she has lived out her teaching dream for the past 31 years at Bertha Godfrey Elementary as the Kindergarten Prep teacher. Mrs. Goodman feels a sense of accomplishment in her work as she had the opportunity to do what she loved every day.

Throughout her teaching she has enjoyed seeing young children every day as well as the excitement they bring to the classroom. She also enjoys the wonderful people she has had the opportunity to work with over the years. A specific person she will miss is Karla Kenne. She has worked with her for the past 26 years. Mrs. Goodman is extremely thankful for her years with Mrs. Kenne and says their “goal was to make a positive impact on the children in our room!”

One of the most satisfying aspects she encountered on her teaching journey was watching the children grow in so many ways as well as building relationships with both the children and their families. Mrs. Goodman said, “I truly love what I get to do every day because it has always been my dream.”

Her plans for retirement are to take time for herself, like having coffee with friends, sewing, and quilting. Her most important retirement plan though is being a grandma to her nine grandchildren.

Thank you Diane for your many years of service to the Algona Community School District!
