Marching band 2026

Written by Kinsey Throne

The Algona High School band has been very busy this summer and received some exciting news. They have been selected to perform at the IASB Board Conference in Des Moines on Thursday, November 19th, as part of the opening ceremony. Every year, IASB chooses only one band, choir, or orchestra from across the state to perform, making this a tremendous honor and opportunity for growth in the band.

Algona High School band students are currently working towards upcoming All-State auditions, which will be held on October 24th. Students will audition to play in the band, with the best musicians being selected to play in the All-State orchestra. Auditions typically include playing three scales, two etudes, and a one minute portion of a solo of the student’s choice. There are roughly 29 AHS students planning to audition this fall.

On Friday, August 28th, the Scarlet Regiment marching band had their first half-time performance. The marching band played two movements of their three movement show, “Metalpocalypse.” Director Nick Liebl states, “I am very proud of our first performance. I am proud of the hard work that led us to this point, and I think we set a very aggressive trajectory for the year. The execution was quite good!” Marching band camp began on August 3rd and went through the 6th. Each day of camp had eight hours of marching and left students more confident in their show.

This Friday night, the Scarlet Regiment marching band will perform at the halftime show of the Algona vs Forest City football game.
