The 2026 AHS trapshooting season, held through the Izaak Walton League of Algona, wrapped up at the Iowa State Trapshooting meet in Cedar Falls.
The 2026 State competition was held June 12th through the 14th, bringing together high school trapshooters from across Iowa. Athletes competed in 200 clays, putting their focus, patience, and consistency to the test throughout the event.
For Algona and Bishop Garrigan student-athletes, attending the State meet wrapped up a strong spring season. At State, shooters relied on the skills they developed throughout the spring. The shooters got the opportunity to compete against some of the best high school athletes in Iowa.
Top three for the women’s and men’s divisions from AHS shooters at State include: Charli Dodds, shooting a 160, and Emma Spear and Riley Schechinger both with 157. For the boys, they finished 15th as a team. Nile Owen was top shooter for AHS with 193, Jacob Seebecker was next with 192, and Blake Kajewski had a 191.
For these student‑athletes trapshooting means more than breaking targets. The sport requires focus, patience, and remaining calm because one missed target can shift the score. "I have deeply enjoyed the four years I have given to trapshooting and would urge others to try it, " said Algona shooter and AHS graduate Elijah Garrett.
Overall the 2026 season ended great for the AHS trap team. From the first practices to the final rounds of the State meet, the shooters kept improving their skill throughout the season and kept gaining experience. With a great 2026 season, the AHS team is already looking forward to the 2027 season to improve and keep breaking targets.
