The lady Bulldogs have been very busy on the volleyball court. They started the season with the Spencer Early Bird Volleyball Tournament on August 25th. They went 2-0 against South O'Brien, playing great as a team. They also went 2-0 again against Manson. They brought the heat in the last game of the night but ended up going 0-2 against Spencer with a close fight of 17-21 and 16-21.
The Bulldogs traveled to Hudson on August 27th for the Hudson quad, where they faced good competition. Their first game, against Cedar Falls, ended in a loss, going 0-2. Even though they didn't come away with a win, it gave their team an opportunity to grow and continue improving. The Bulldogs' next game was against Cedar Ridge Christian. They played great as a team from the beginning and ended the game with a victory, going 2-0. The win made the team ready and excited for their next game. They then faced Hudson, ending in a loss, going 0-2. Even with the loss, the team kept their heads up, looking forward to their first home game of the season against Clear Lake on September 1st.
The girls faced a hard-fought match against Clear Lake. They started very strong, winning the first set 25-13. Clear Lake then came battling back in the second set, defeating the Bulldogs 24-26. The Bulldogs then started falling behind in the 3rd set, 16-25, and 20-25 in the final set. Although the Bulldogs couldn't end with a win, they still played hard, and that will help them throughout the season. Senior volleyball player, Maci Mallory, states, “The way our team comes together makes the season more enjoyable.”
On September 3rd, the Bulldogs played Hampton-Dumont-CAL on their home court. The ladies did very well, winning in 3 sets 25-14, 25-13, and 25-15. They took home the win and really enjoyed the game and had a lot of fun.
This week, on September 10th, the Bulldogs traveled to Eagle Grove for an NCC triangular against Eagle Grove and St. Edmond. The Dogs had a great night with wins over both teams, 2-0. Against Eagle Grove, the scores were 25-10 and 25-13. Against St. Edmond, both games ended 25-19.
The Bulldogs are in action next week on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. Tuesday, the 15, they are at Storm Lake, with the game starting at 7:00. Thursday, the 17th, they head down to Webster City, with the game starting at 7:00.
