This year, AHS gained a junior foreign exchange student. Lely Flores Bruzual is from Spain and is very excited to join Algona High School this school year. She is very excited to meet new people and get the whole American experience and culture here in Iowa.
There are many differences between Flores’s schools in Spain and Algona High School. Her school is much smaller than AHS and offers no elective classes, such as art. Classes in Spain are also arranged by age, not grade level.
Flores is really enjoying her stay here in Iowa. Her favorite part of exchanging so far is meeting new friends and her host family, Levi and Rachel Eden. She states, “I feel challenged, and I'm looking forward to getting to have new experiences.”
She will stay in Algona for the entire school year before she goes home to Spain at the beginning of June.
