Algona welcomed multiple new teachers to the staff this year. Ms. Metz, formerly a teacher associate for the school district, was hired as the high school geometry teacher. This will be Ms. Metz’s sixth year at Algona and her first year as a teacher. Before coming to Algona, she worked in construction with a construction management degree.
She decided she wanted to become a teacher after her first year as a TA. She said, “The relationship between a teacher and a student is pretty special.” Ms. Metz graduated from Western Governors University with a bachelor's degree of science and math education.
Her favorite part of teaching at Algona so far is how welcoming of an environment it is. She also comments on her fellow staff members and the freedom she has to be herself. She is looking forward to being more involved in Homecoming and other traditions for the first time as a teacher.
Outside of school, she enjoys fishing, racing, golfing, and traveling back to North Dakota, where she grew up.
