AHS weight room 2026

Written by Jack Manske

The Algona High School weight room has changed so much in the past few years. Algona teamed up with Power Lift to bring an amazing weight room for all AHS members to use. They added new medicine balls, new squat racks, new weights with the Algona logo on them, and a strip of turf used for agility purposes. Mr. Miller, AHS’s strength and conditioning teacher, says, ”It gives us the capability to have an optimal strength and conditioning program and gives us no excuse to not succeed.”

The weight room is used mainly for upper body and lower body exercises. A typical workout around Mr. Miller's weight room sessions look like upper body on Tuesdays and Fridays while they do lower body on Mondays and Thursdays. On Wednesdays they have a performance topic sometimes and a speed and agility day.

In the past, Algona had an old weight room which was a lot smaller with old bars and squat racks. Then in the 2024-2025 school year, Algona went under construction to build a new weight room, wrestling room, and four new basketball courts for all purposes. The weight room opened in the summer of 2025 but most students started using it once the school year started. The weight room stays the same as it stood in 2025 to present day.
