It is an exciting time for some of Algona’s teachers and staff!  Starting February 1, Phase 1B of COVID vaccinations will be available to teachers and school staff.

Staff members were given a survey on Thursday, January 14.  All of the staff at all Algona Community School District buildings have a choice whether or not to get the vaccine.  More information is available on the Kossuth Regional Health Center website.  This information includes setting up an appointment and the location of the appointment.

Although some teachers are skeptical about getting the vaccine, the majority of them are very excited to receive their dose.  70% of the population needs to be vaccinated for herd immunity to be effective.

AHS’ advanced biology students are currently learning about viruses and vaccinations.  Biology teacher, Steve Young, said, “I am extremely excited to get both shots to become immune and begin ending the pandemic.  Woohoo.”  If you find one of the advanced biology students, they will be happy to explain how the vaccine works and how your body reacts to it.
