The Algona Bulldogs are only a couple of weeks away from postseason play. Both basketball teams continue to play and practice hard every day. 

On Tuesday, January 19th, the boys’ and girls’ squads planned to play Clear Lake at home. The games were postponed due to weather. 

The boys and girls hosted Pocahontas Area on Thursday, January 21st. The girls’ team lost to Pocahontas Area 29-43. Izzy Henry led the teams in points with nine. A’Lailiah Perry had seven points, and Tora Solbach had six points as well. 

The boys’ team beat Pocahontas Area 70-61.

On Friday, January 22nd, the boys’ and girls’ teams hosted Iowa Falls-Alden. The girls lost a close game 50-53. Solbach played a hard game and was the top scorer for the Bulldogs with 17 points. The sophomore says, “I think we have improved a lot and I can’t wait to see how much better we can become over the course of time.” Lillian Etherington had 13 points and Maddie Hilbert added nine points. The boys’ team also lost to Iowa-Falls, 52-57.

Both squads traveled to Humboldt on Tuesday, January 26th. The girls’ team lost a close game to a tough squad, 49-50. The boys also lost to Humboldt 48-60. The boys beat Humboldt earlier this season, but the shots just didn’t seem to fall in the second half.

On Thursday, January 28th, both teams traveled to Hampton-Dumont and both teams came away with wins! The girls won 53 to 26 while the boys won 68 to 58.

Tonight the girls’ team will host Webster City. 

Coming up for the Bulldogs, both teams will travel to Clarion on Tuesday, February 2nd. Be sure to wish the Dogs good luck as they wrap up their regular season.
