Singers at AHS are awaiting their annual Pops Concert. The concert is going to be held on Thursday, February 18th, in the Performing Arts Center. It starts at 7:30, so make sure to get there early so you can get the best seats in the house! With the governor’s proclamation expiring and the green light from the school district, spectator restrictions are now lifted on all concerts. With this being said though, masks are still required, and if you’re feeling ill, stay home. The singers will be wearing masks the whole time as well. If you can’t make it, the concert will be livestreamed on the AHS Broadcasting Youtube page.

Performances at the concert will feature the concert choir, mixed choir, jazz choir, and jazz band. The jazz choir just had a contest in Jefferson this past Monday, and they received a Division I rating. They are excited to show off their talents to a local audience. Students from all grades participate in this concert, and they always do a great job! The concert choir is the biggest choir section, and they will be singing three songs. Their first song is “Virtual Insanity.” This is a song describing the dangers of getting too invested in your digital life and not living in the real world. Although this song is almost 30 years old, it relates greatly to the times we’ve been going through currently. It also makes it a lot easier for students to sing to a song they can relate to. The concert choir will also be singing “Take Me Home” and “Listen to the Music.” The mixed choir will be singing three songs as well, including, “Treat People With Kindness,” “Proud,” and “What Makes You Beautiful.” The jazz choir will be performing “Straighten Up and Fly Right,” “Nature Boy,” and “Happy Together.” Last, but not least, the jazz band will show off their skills with the songs “Nutville,” “Cerulean Blue,” and “You’d Be so Nice to Come Home To.”

Choir is a great way to get involved and meet new people throughout the school. Senior, Ava Roach, states, “Choir is a lot of fun, but the performances are what make it all worthwhile.” Make sure you mark your calendar for February 18th to come out and see the AHS Pops Concert, you won’t regret it!
