This week’s Senior Spotlight shines on Michaela McMahon. She has been raised by two loving grandparents, Sheryl and Todd McMahonn, in Bode, and she owns a cat named Spots and a dog named Ben.

In her spare time, when she’s not dominating her opponents in Quiz Bowl, you can find Michaela listening to her immaculate music taste, reading, writing, and playing video games. She also taught herself to play the ukulele, although she hasn’t touched the instrument in years. She also thinks she is the funniest person ever. Other favorites of hers include the colors olive green and yellow, anything Mexican, and red pandas.

As a senior, Michaela loves having more free time, even though it does not always feel like that. She describes herself as pretty, studious, organized and creative, and is a great person to come to for help. She’s a good listener and is not afraid to answer questions and make connections. Micheala says, “I don’t have all of the answers, but I have endless amounts of support.” Michaela also works hard in every field of her life, whether that means at school, at home, or at work.

On the subject of COVID, Michaela has a positive attitude. She’s grateful that she is still able to work and live as normal through this pandemic and encourages everyone to get vaccinated.

For her future, Michaela plans to attend the University of South Dakota as a lot of her family in the past have done and graduate with a PhD in neuroscience. As a high school veteran, Michaela gives good, confident advice to practice good study habits if you want to survive high school and possibly college afterwards.

Michaela is a wonderful, bright, encouraging individual whom the school is so lucky to know. Don’t be afraid to wave hello or strike up a conversation; she’s glad to meet new people and aid anyone who is struggling with their high school experience.
