Golf 2021 - James Wartick

With the warmer weather, the golf boys and girls have been enjoying their time! 

The Algona boys’ golf team played in Emmetsburg on April 22nd. It was a little chilly with a high of 60 and a low of 29 degrees, but this didn’t stop the boys from golfing the nine holes at the Five Island Golf Course. James Wartick led the Dogs, scoring a 40, while Patrick Louscher and Luke Carter finished with a 46. Evan Deal and Logan Meendering both scored 47s, and rounding out the Varsity was Spencer Long with a 52. This brought the team’s total to 278, putting Algona in 3rd.  

On the same day, the girls had a home meet against Iowa Falls-Alden and St. Edmond. The Cadets edged out the Bulldogs 215 to 241, with the Gaels coming in third with a score of 288.  Carlie Yokimishyn was the top AHS golfer, earning runner-up status with a score of 54. Greta Lampe followed for the Bulldogs with a 60, followed by Ruby Mitchell with a 62 and Natalie Walker with a 65.

The girls were back in action the next day, April 23rd, in Humboldt, for a triangular with the Wildcats and the Clear Lake Lions. Clear Lake was first with a 183, Humboldt was second with 196, and AHS came in third with 229. Top golfer for AHS was Carlie Yokimishyn with a 52. Natalie Walker and Greta Lampe both came in with a 58.

Also on the 23rd, the boys had a meet. They were at home against Clear Lake and Humboldt. Clear Lake finished in first, with a 169, followed by Humboldt with a 183. The Dogs rounded out the scores in third with a 196. Top golfers for AHS were James Wartick with a 44, followed by Patrick Losucher with a 47. Logan Meenderring had a 51 and Spencer Long had a 54. 

The boys’ team had a home tournament on Saturday, April 24th. The team placed fourth with 389 total points. The tournament was won by Pocahontas Area with 370 points. Top placers for Algona include James Wartick in 2nd with a score of 91 followed by Patrick Louscher in 9th with 96 points.

Next week,  the boys are at home on Monday, May 3rd, against Estherville. Both squads take on Clarion on Tuesday, May 4th. The girls are at home, at River Road, while the boys are at Clarion. On Friday, May 7th, both squads are away. The girls travel to Armstrong while the boys will be headed to West Bend. Good luck to both squads as they near the end of their seasons.
