FFA State Convention 2021

Several Algona FFA students went to the 93rd FFA State Convention in Des Moines.  The students and advisor, Mrs. Becker, left on Sunday, April 18th, for this three day convention. While there, the students competed, received awards, and attended learning breakout sessions.

The Algona FFA chapter exhibit received a bronze rating. And for the National Chapter award, they got a gold rating. Algona FFA chapter 2020 president, Elly Louwagie, states, “I’m very proud of all our chapter was able to do this year with all of the restrictions.”

The Algona FFA chapter had 11 Iowa Degree recipients. These recipients who attended State to receive their degree include: Jordan Buscher, Nick Christensen, Allison Kramer, Connor Olmstead, Jacey Savage, and Hunter Thilges. Other Algona FFA members who received this recognition but didn’t attend State were: Hunter Anderson, Nick Brown, Lawton Divis, Lilly Divis, and Jaden Zwiefel.

Connor Olmsted represented AHS by performing in the band. Elly Louwagie performed in the job interview category, where she earned a bronze. Jordan Busher competed in the ag broadcasting competition and got a silver rating. Allison Kramer and Nick Christensen served as the Algona FFA’s delegates and voted on the North Central state vice president, state secretary, state reporter, and state president. They also voted on various amendments and other business. Jace Jennings, Molly Bormann, Nick Christensen, and Joe Schumacher competed in the team ag sales and placed 10th, receiving a gold. Farm Business management was represented by Elly Louwagie, Collin Casey, Allison Kramer, and Taylor Kelly. These students got silver.  Freshmen Reid Louwagie and Morgan Kelly took part in the freshmen Greenhand test. Reid Louwagie placed 6th and received gold and Morgan Kelly placed 16th and also received gold.

Also while there, seven Algona students helped packaged food for Meals of the Heartland. The AHS students were so efficient that they even helped another chapter by filling some of their boxes.

Overall the students who got to attend had a fun time learning, competing, and being able to converse with other ag students from across the state!
