Volleyball - Heenan

The Algona High School volleyball team is already going strong. The girls have been working hard after school in practices. The team has even been putting in extra time early Wednesday mornings, as well as after school, in the weight room.

The Varsity volleyball team traveled to Adel on August 26, 2021. They played three other teams, Newton, with whom they went 1-2; ADM, losing 0-2; and Harlan, with whom Algona also went 0-2. With such bigger school teams, it was tough competition.  Alasha Heenan had a good night of kills in the front row while Maddie Rahe added in great passes from the back row.

Saturdays don’t stop the hard working volleyball team. On September 4th, they hosted a home tournament. The Bulldogs played against Estherville Lincoln Central, winning 2-1; Spirit Lake, losing 0-2; Lake Mills, going 1-2; Sioux Center, losing 0-2; and Storm Lake, winning 2-0.

Next up, the Dogs hosted Clarion-Goldfield-Dows on Thursday, September 9th. They put up a good fight but ended the night going 0-3. Maddie Hilbert worked hard in the back row, adding in 21 digs.

Back at it with another big Saturday, the Bulldogs traveled to Spencer on Saturday, September 11th. The girls played against Cherokee Washington, going 0-2; Carroll, losing 0-2; Estherville Lincoln Central, going 1-2; and losing to Humboldt 0-2. After a long day of volleyball at Spencer, the players learned to work together and pinpointed items they can work on to get better.

The Algona volleyball team hosted Iowa Falls-Alden on September 16th. The Dogs started off rough, losing the first game quite easily. However, they rallied back and won the next three games, taking the match victory against the Cadets.

During Homecoming week, Algona volleyball travels to Clarion-Goldfield on Tuesday, September 21st, to play a triangular with Clarion and Pocahontas Area. Also during Homecoming week, the girls travel to Clear Lake on Thursday, September 23rd.
