Hocus Pocus characters

On Saturday, October 9th, Hocus Pocus, a Disney classic, was played at Algona High School’s football field.

Hocus Pocus, is about a teenager, Max Dennison, who moved to Salem, Massachusetts. He explores an abandoned house with his sister, Dani, and their new friend, Allison. They accidentally free a coven of witches. They need the help of a magical black cat to help them steal the witches’ book of spells and stop them from becoming immortal.

The event, which saw several hundred in attendance, was sponsored by the Algona Chamber of Commerce along with the Algona Community Schools.

Mr. Jacobson said, “It was a neat, safe environment for families to come out for a great time.”

The movie was free admission and had concessions open, along with free popcorn. Those in attendance could also enter into a raffle for a State 5 Movie Theater package. Guests were advised to bring their own blankets and chairs, but bleacher seating was available. Algona Chamber of Commerce member, Amy Whitacre, states, “We’d like to thank everyone for their cooperation and understanding on the seating arrangements. We understand that the football field would have been the ideal location to watch the movie from, but in an effort to maintain the stability and structure of new turf, it was decided to not use the field.”

The weather was great, there was no wind, and it wasn’t too cold. It was a great way to kick off the fall season.

Whitacre adds, “Due to the overwhelming success and positive feedback that we received, we’ll be putting more of these types of events in the calendar for 2022 once the weather gets nice again.”
