Hoyt Crouch, marching band 2021

The Scarlet Regiment Marching Band performed a great show at Algona Band Day on Saturday, October 2nd. Although the band doesn’t compete, they still act as if they did and tried their hardest.

The Algona Band Day performance, as well as the State marching contest performance, in Fort Dodge, capped off months of hard work by the band members. Starting in June of 2021, the students attended band camp. Then, leading into August, the band started having late night and early morning practices, putting in excellent work. In September, the students’ investments in each other and in the music started paying off as they started to show others their hard work through halftime field performances.

The band put an exclamation point on their marching band season through Band Day and State. Algona High School band director, Nick Liebl, has been working his hardest with a great team, including Kurt Kissinger and Matt Stein. Liebl says, “Beast? Beast!!! The end.”

October 9th, the 65 member band travelled to Fort Dodge for the State competition. They put all of their effort into their great “RISE” performance, receiving a Division I rating from the IHSMA. This was the 42nd time, 35th consecutive, that the band has received a Division I rating since the contest began in 1977. All the band members were proud of each other. As for the seniors, it was emotional.

The band is now looking forward to the upcoming jazz and concert band experiences.
