Student Spotlight - Sam Reitz

Sam Reitz is the son of Whitney Zimmerman and Mark Dryer. Sam grew up in Algona, Iowa. Sam’s favorite memory of the summers when he was growing up is climbing trees. Sam has two dogs, Henry and Remmy; he loves them both so much. Sam has three biological siblings: Ben, Savanna, and Matthew. Sam has a crazy, loving family.

Sam is an Algona High School student. He is currently a senior. His favorite memory of high school so far is being in foods class with Mrs. McMahon. Sam’s favorite subject in school is science. Being at Algona, Sam is involved in wrestling. Sam has been in it for eight years now. One of Sam’s favorite memories of wrestling is when the wrestling team went to Iowa State for a camp; lots of fun memories were made. Sam’s advice to underclassmen is, “Be involved in the school. I know four years seems like a long time, but it will fly by.”

Outside of school Sam is a very busy man. He has a job and he enjoys working. Sam works at Peffer Precast. He likes to spend most of his time working but always has time to hang out with friends and get Sour Patch Kids, Sam’s favorite. Sam’s favorite place is their cabin in Maine; however, he doesn’t get there much. When he does, he doesn’t want to come back. Sam’s favorite food is boneless wings. It doesn’t matter where he goes, if they have it, he gets it.

Sam plans on graduating from Algona High School and then he is going to take a year away from the school classrooms. In that year, he is going to work at Peffer Precast and get his online general education classes done at Iowa Lakes Community College in Algona. After he is done with these classes, he is going to go to UNI and study bio health sciences.

Be sure to tell Sam “hi” when you see him in the hallway!
