AHS course guide

As the second semester approaches, there are many activities, sports, and classes to look forward to. Take a chance and try something new, because before you know it, the semester will be over just like the first semester of this school year. Morganne Cassens said, “I am most excited for the second semester to come because that means it is getting closer to graduation.”

There are many opportunities to gain more credits by taking semester classes, and most are offered to gain new skills and interests.

The classes offered second semester that require a prerequisite are: Drawing-Paint I & II, design, advanced studio, clays, art practicum, automated accounting, multimedia projects 2-4, business practicum, project management, global foods, baking, Child Development II, Nurse Aide II, Metals Construction Technology II, mind works, and Journalism II.

The classes offered that do not require any other classes before are: introduction to studio, automotive brakes theory, automotive brakes lab, heating and air conditioning lab, Multimedia Projects I, t.v. & radio announcing, career seminar, business principles, business communications, computer applications, sports and entertainment marketing, Farming Tech and Lab I, present day literature, creative writing, cinema, public speaking, food and nutrition, creative textiles, welding, electronics, architectural drafting and design, metal working, Bulldog business, healthy living, psychology, sociology, criminal justice, World War II,  and leadership.

As a student, if there is any interest in any of these classes, you can look at the 2021-2022 AHS Course Guide on the Algona Community School District website or talk to a counselor to learn more about them. Some classes may require you to be in a certain grade, but all classes listed are offered in the spring semester at AHS. These are all in addition to online college courses available for the spring semester. A list of these can be found with the guidance counselors.

As the weather gets warmer, keep an eye out for the spring sport sign up sheets. AHS offers boys’ & girls’ track and boys’ & girls’ golf. Each sport is a great opportunity to get out and get some fresh air and active movement as the weather warms up.

The spring semester holds a lot of opportunities for students at AHS, so now is the time to learn more about them. It is a perfect opportunity to find interests that you may have never known you would enjoy. Spring semester begins on January 4th, 2022, so now is the time to do some researching and preparing for when winter break is over.
