Girls' basketball 1/7/22

On Friday, January 7, the Bulldogs hosted Saint Edmond Catholic School for a basketball game. These games concluded with a full sweep for the Bulldogs. Both the JV teams made the night start strong, winning their games, with the girls’ Varsity to follow. 

The girls’ Varsity won 60-24, running a continuous clock at the end of the game. The leading scorer for this game was Lauren McLaughlin with 13 points. A’Lailah Perry had 11 rebounds, and Lillian Etherington had six assists. Lillian Etherington commented, “Our record was to beat 50 points and we broke it. It was our highest scoring game!”

Continuing the streak was the boys’ Varsity. This was a well-fought game, with both teams scoring many points throughout the game. The Bulldogs pushed through in the last quarter to secure the win 65-56. Garrett Goche led the team in points and rebounds, scoring a total of 24 points and adding in 12 rebounds. Jackson Cecil led the team in assists with four.

On Tuesday, January 11, the Bulldogs visited Spencer for their game. Both Algona Varsity games resulted in a loss, but they worked hard throughout the whole game and did not give up. The girls’ Varsity had an ending score of 32-72. Leading for points was Lillian Etherington and Lauren McLaughlin, both scoring nine points. Leading with rebounds was Maddie Hilbert with a total of three and A’Lailah Perry had the most assists with two. The boys’ Varsity lost 60-85. Spencer has a really tough team. The boys fought hard but came up short. 

Next week, both teams will travel to Clear Lake on January 18 and to the Pocahontas Area on January 20. They will also host Iowa Falls-Alden on the 21st. Tyler Manske said, “We are hoping for some great outcomes next week with our competition and are working hard in practice to get better.”
