Academic Decathlon

The Academic Decathlon program is a statewide competition made up of 10 events. This is a program made up of seven multiple choice exams. The seven exams are in art, economics, literature, mathematics, music, science, and social science. The students have 30 minutes to take the exams, and then they take an essay exam. Following that they do a speech event that is about five minutes long. To finish the day, they do an interview event.

On January 27th and 28th, the Algona Academic Decathlon will be at the Algona Campus of Iowa Lakes Community College. This event will be a regional competition. On March 4th and 5th, there will be the state competition in Mason City, at NIACC.

The AHS students involved are Faith Huber, Willow Kent, Harsh Modi, Jessica Vazquez-Suarez, Ryan McCauley, Wren Menke, Wyatt Struecker, Averie Cunningham, Isabelle Gibbs, and Irelynd Lohman.
