Academic Decathlon 2022 State qualifiers

The Academic Decathlon team participated in a competition on the 27th and 28th of January at Iowa Lakes Community College. Academic Decathlon is an activity where students are tested over seven different topics and have an interview. Overall the Algona students did outstanding! 

Wren Menke received 1st place in economics and math, 2nd place in art, and 3rd place in science. Isabelle Gibbs got 1st place in the interview portion, 2nd place in economics, and 3rd place in speech and art. Harsh Modi received 1st place in speech, 2nd place in the interview, and 3rd in music, math, science. Faith Huber received 1st place in the interview, 2nd place in music and art, and 3rd place in speech and math. Ryan McCauley received 1st in economics and math, 2nd in speech, music, and social science, and 3rd place in interview, literature, and science. Wyatt Struecker got 1st place in science, 2nd place in math, and 3rd place in economic and social science. Willow Kent got 1st place in speech and also literature, 2nd place in math, and 3rd place in an interview and social science. Irelynd Lohman got 1st place in music and science and received 2nd place in the interview, economics, literature, and art. Averie Cunningham received 3rd place in music, economics, literature, and art. Jessica Vazquez-Suarez received 2nd in speech and 3rd place in interview and math. The team had a fantastic turnout! 

The next time they compete is on March 4th and 5th, at the Regional event at NIACC in Mason City. Mr. Stein is ready to coach the team to make them prepared for the Regional event! Isabelle Gibbs says, “The events went all very well. My teammates and I did extremely well. I am excited to see the competition at State.”
