NHS 2021

The Algona High School Chapter of National Honor Society will be selecting new members to join. Juniors and seniors looking to join must submit their applications to Mrs. Spear or Mrs. Cassens by 4:00pm on Friday, February 11th. Applications turned in any later will not be accepted.

There are four main requirements to be considered for National Honor Society. Students must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher. They also must have a minimum of 20 hours of community service. The number of service hours is originally 35 hours, but it was altered due to limited opportunities because of Covid. After this year, the number of volunteer hours will go back to 35. Students must submit the required packet that will be reviewed by the NHS selection committee. The last requirement is to submit two letters of recommendation that highlight the applicant’s four pillars. The letters can not be from family members or from a faculty member, unless they are a coach or activity sponsor.

The four pillars that must be upheld by NHS members are: academics, leadership, character, and service. The NHS selection panel will rank the eligible students and decide who will be inducted.

Kenzi Carrigan, one of the current members of NHS, says, “I am super excited to see the new members get inducted!”

The induction ceremony will be held on Monday, March 14, 2022, at 6:30pm in the PAC. The ceremony will be held along with the Academic Night of Excellence. If students have been accepted, they will be notified the week of February 21st. Hurry and get your applications and recommendation letters into Spear or Cassens to have a chance to be inducted into NHS!
