The Algona Bulldog volleyball team had some busy days these past few weeks. On Tuesday, September 20th, the Bulldogs had a triangular against Clarion and Pochahontas. The Bulldogs pulled off an easy win against Pochahontas, winning two out of three. The scores were 25 to 19 the first match and 25 to 16 the second match.
Clarion was a great matchup for the Bulldogs. The girls started off strong, winning the first set of the game 25 to 23. Unfortunately, the Bulldogs lost the next two matches, but they had a close finish in the last set of 12 to 15. Although the Bulldogs did not win all the matches, the girls had some great achievements during the games. Paige Schmitt, a sophomore, had 21 assists, A’Lailah Perry, a senior, had four kills, and Casey VanOtterloo, a sophomore, had 19 digs.
The girls traveled to Iowa Falls-Alden on September 22nd to compete against the Cadets. The Bulldogs fought hard throughout, ultimately winning all three sets out of five. The matches ended with the scores of: 25 to 19, 25 to 15, and 28 to 26. The girls had some great achievements throughout the night. Schmitt had 27 assists, Perry add in six kills, Cailey Carroll, a senior, had four blocks, and Lillian Etherington, a senior, had 12 digs. Carroll expresses her thoughts on the season so far, “We have improved in playing as a team with each game.”
This week the girls took on the Tornados at Storm Lake on Monday, September 26, 2022. The girls fought hard against the Tornadoes, finally coming out on top in four sets. They started out with a battle, as they were defeated 21 to 25 in the opening game. The Bulldogs made a great comeback and won the final three games 25 to 20, 25 to 11, and 25 to 15. The girls put in an incredible effort, which led to their successful outcomes. Perry contributed 17 digs, Schmitt had 38 assists, and sophomore, Najolie Price, had four blocks.
Next up, the Bulldogs travel to Clarion on Thursday, October 6th. The Bulldogs are looking to get the win over the Cowgirls after their last matchup didn’t go their way.
