Quiz Bowl 2022

Quiz Bowl is a team based trivia competition. Typically two teams compete head to head through various categories to test their knowledge. There can only be four people participating at a time per team. Any more will have to be subbed out. They are quizzed on different categories, like geography, sports, literature, math, music, etc.

There are three different rounds: toss ups, worth 10 points, bonus questions, typically worth 10 points with 5 more points for each bonus you earn, and lightning rounds, where you have 60 seconds to answer 10 rapid fire questions on a designated topic, each worth 10 points. The winner is the one with the highest cumulative points at the end of all rounds.

Algona High School’s quiz bowl competition season starts on Saturday, October 15th. They will be traveling to Bishop Garrigan to compete against rivaling schools. They will have three tentative teams competing. Their first team consists of Ace Studer, Chance Studer, Brennan Kajewski, Joseph Struecker, Seth Walker, and Jacob Ward. Their second team consists of Elliot McKeage, Flynn McCann, Remi Shaffer, Nick DePue, and Joey Merrill. Their third team consists of Toby Nelton, Tora Solbach, Waverly Espe, Faith Huber, Treston Severson, and Quintin Frambach.

Algona High School will be hosting its own tournament on Saturday, November 12th. This competition can potentially qualify teams to compete on the national level. Remi Shaffer says, ” This quiz bowl season is going to be fun.”
