FCCLA - spring 2022

FCCLA stands for Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America. FCCLA is a student organization for students in Family and Consumer Sciences education in public and private schools through 12th grade.

In FCCLA, there are chapter projects that focus on a variety of youth concerns, which include family relationships, parenting, teen pregnancy, peer pressure, substance abuse, teen violence, the environment, nutrition and fitness, and career exploration.

Last year, Ashley Cantu and Abby Brooks did a project on helping kids become healthier by not being on their phones as much. Algona High School FCCLA president, Ashley Cantu, said, “I love being involved in FCCLA and getting to learn new things about how to be ready to start a career.”

Through FCCLA, members have the opportunity to expand their leadership potential and develop skills for life-planning, problem-solving, goal setting, decision making, and interpersonal communication-necessary at home and in their  workplace.

This year’s state theme is Shine a Light. It is focused on Mental Health Awareness. This year’s state leadership conference is March 26th-28th in Cedar Rapids. If anyone is interested in joining FCCLA, talk to Mrs. Louwagie or the president, Ashley Cantu.
